Isobel

Background

Isobel holds The Witching Hours, midnight to six, beatless, the largest block on the station and the one least addressed to anybody. She is not a companion and not a comfort. Where The Medium leans in close on Séance, Isobel speaks from somewhere further off: ritual rather than intimate, an utterance rather than a reassurance. She says almost nothing, roughly once every twelve tracks, and never explains herself. Named for Isobel Gowdie, whose 1662 confessions in Auldearn are the most detailed account of witchcraft in the historical record, given, strangely, without torture and at extraordinary length. Her voice is deep and Spanish-inflected, a Latin American narrator’s register that treats every hour like a recitation.

Old, flat, unhurried. Neither warm nor cruel, simply uninterested in whether anyone is listening. Archaic register. Never soothes, never sells, never fills a silence. The least ASMR voice on the station, by construction.
